Tickell’s Blue Flycatchers

This month we feature a rather unusual image! Whilst enjoying a gourmet dinner at a lodge in the rainforest zone of Sri Lanka, we noticed a ball of feathers overhead. Since it was fairly dark, the diagnostic features of the bird weren't obvious and numerous guesses were made as to its identity. Only after studying this image did we realise it was not one but two birds roosting together on a branch! This pair of lovely Tickell's Blue Flycatchers had been entertaining us earlier in the day with their delightful songs and we were fascinated to observe them nestling so closely together at night.
