Brown China mark moth - Elophila nymphaeata

A striking moth that is common from May - August. Almost always found near still or very slow flowing water as larvae are actually aquatic and live underwater thanks to their tracheal (external) gills.

The Brown China mark is usually night flying and has a wingspan of 16 - 20 MM.

Found througout Britain, with some variation in colouring, tending to be a little darker and more drab as you go north. The Brown China mark moth is found throughout most of Europe
