Beauty of Birds: a beginner’s guide to birds, their natural history and how to study them

What will be covered on the course?
This is a 3-day course aimed at amateur bird enthusiasts wanting to gain an understanding of why birds are so special. Participants will be introduced to practical field skills in the behavioural ecology and conservation of birds.

The course will be delivered by a team of renowned bird specialists who collectively have extensive experience of bird conservation both in Jersey and worldwide.

Sessions will include:
• What exactly makes birds so unique?
• Bird monitoring - try out different techniques and see when to use them
• Basic bird taxonomy and tips for identification
• Birds and conservation; the Durrell experience in conservation of endangered birds worldwide
• Global issues for bird conservation

Plus!!
A chance to get involved in practical activities:
• Guided bird walks around Jersey
• See birds being ringed
• Behind the scenes at Durrell: incubation, fostering and hand-rearing

How much will it cost?
The course fee is £250 (discounted to £200 if paid for at least
8 weeks in advance). Full board on-site accommodation is available for a further £35 per night (this includes free entry to
the wildlife park).
