Widespread and common throughout Britain and Europe. Used to be known as the gardener's friend as they eat a variety of garden pests, especcially aphids. They have even been introduced into many parts of the USA as a pest controller. They breed in May and June, and the female can lay more than 2,000 small yellow eggs.
