Broad-bodies chaser dragonfly Broad-bodied chaser. Reasonably common across southern England. Usually seen around still or slow moving water, though can be seen away from water as adults are migratory and also as young adults spend 2 weeks away from water after emerging; and often perched on bushes or shrubs. Also common right across Europe and Asia.
Females are the same shape, with the same brown wing patches but are Brown/yellow-gold in colour instead of blue. The distinctive flat, broad body and the dark brown patches on the wings are unmistakeable. They fly from April until September, but most commonly seen in June.
