Common blue damselflies mating. Copyright Wildlife Extra

Common and abundant throughout the UK, especially around still waters. The female is green and black, though can occasionally be blue as well. The Common Blue Damselfly has only one small black stripe on the side of the thorax, while all other blue damselflies have two.

It can be difficult to distinguish from other damselflies, especially from any distance.
