Place your bets on endangered species15/12/2009 00:26:01Punters think Polar bears are in decline. December 2009. Ireland's largest bookmaker, Paddy Power, is taking bets on the estimated global polar bear population on 31 December 2011 according to the world's largest independent conservation organization, the WWF. The current WWF estimate places the polar bear population between 20,000 and 25,000; however Paddy Power's odds predict a sharp decline in their population over the next two years and they are offering odds of 13/8 that the number dips to between 15,000 and 20,000. Critically endangered odds Paddy Power said "With global warming now generally agreed to be the most significant threat to the polar bear we predict that their population will move in only one direction. Punters seem to share this view as we are yet to take a single bet on the polar bear population increasing"
