An unusual new species of frog has been discovered in India's Western Ghats.

A very unusual new species of frog has been found in Eravikulam National Park in India's Western Ghats. The species is morphologically dissimilar from any known member of this family in having a bright orange to reddish colouration, multiple macroglands on the body and extremely short limbs.

The new species, Raorchestes resplendens sp. nov. is almost certainly restricted to less than 3 sq. kilometres on the summit of Mount Anamudi, and needs immediate conservation priority.

S.D. Biju, one of the scientists that found the new frog, described the unusual features; "This new frog has very short limbs and multiple glands and swellings almost like a toad. The frog is a unique new member of the tree frog group, and is the only tree frog to have what the researchers call macro glands".
