Leucistic greylag goose in Gosport06/02/2011 12:33:09T Lord has sent us this fine illiteration of a bird. Leucistic Greylag goose in Gosport. Mr Lord says "The bill and legs suggest that the bird is a confused Greylag goose hanging around with the wrong bunch." This bird may be a hybrid, or it may be leucistic. There was a similar sighting at Slimbridge of a potentially leucistic Egyptian goose mixing with Canada & Greylag geese in 2008. Leucism (or Leukism)Leucism is a very unusual condition whereby the pigmentation cells in an animal or bird fail to develop properly. This can result in unusual white patches appearing on the animal, or, more rarely, completely white creatures. Click here to see our gallery of albino and leucistic animals and birds.
