What's in the Box? Solar Insect Theatre
We saw one of these and we thought that they looked like a novel, and refreshing way of studying some of the smaller wildlife in our garden.

So we will run a small project, and try the Solar Insect Theatre', and we will report back at regular intervals as to what we have caught.

The case has a solar powered lamp inside that turns on automatically from dusk till dawn, so is great for anything attracted to light. Otherwise you can bait the case with butterfly/moth food, night and day, and sit back and see what appears. There are various slits and slots for insects to access the case, though it is harder for them to get out (but not too hard), so there is an access door on one side.

The unit also has a few holes drilled into the frame that are designed to provide shelter for solitary bees.

Let us know What You Catch.
If you want to get competitive, let us know what you catch in yours and we will see who finds the most interesting bugs.
