Kangaroo rescue
March 2010. Wildlife officers from the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) have successfully rescued a kangaroo after its leg became caught in a hub cap at Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park.

DEC wildlife officer Matthew Swan said he initially thought that the young male kangaroo was seriously injured and would have to be euthanized.

Mr Swan said "We were informed that the kangaroo was trapped inside something resembling a flower pot holder and was unable to move. However an assessment determined that the kangaroo was in good health, apart from having to deal with a hub cap wrapped around its leg."

Roo tranquilized
With assistance from a volunteer, Mr Swan tranquilised the 1.6m kangaroo and successfully removed the hub cap. An inspection of the kangaroo's leg revealed no serious damage.

"We waited until the kangaroo awoke to ensure it was okay and when it stood up it was a great sign. I went back to the cemetery the next morning to check on the kangaroo but it was nowhere to be seen so we're confident that it was able to move on to a new location.
