Large emerald moth. Copyright Wildlife Extra.

The Large Emerald moth is a very striking, unmistakeable moth. Common throughout the UK from June - August, the Large emerald is usually found around woodlands, hedgerows and heaths. It is a striking green colour, though this fades as the moth ages. Mostly feeds on birch, hazel and beech.

Aside from size and colour, the Large emerald has distinctive brown and white patches on its legs.

Large Emerald Moth - Note the brown and white legs.
