Lesser sand plover

Parag Damle took this beautiful image of a leucistic Lesser sand plover in Akshi, near Alibag in Maharastra State in India. Lesser sand plover are found across Asia, Africa and Australasia.

Leucism (or Leukism)

Leucism is a very unusual condition whereby the pigmentation cells in an animal or bird fail to develop properly. This can result in unusual white patches appearing on the animal, or, more rarely, completely white creatures.

Our thanks to Parag Damle for his image.
