Huge haul of tiger and leopard skins found in Nepal.

30/03/2007 00:00:00 news/leopardskinswcn[1] A huge haul of tiger and leopard skins was found in Langtang National Park, Nepal in September 2005. 5 tiger skins, 36 leopard skins, 238 otter skins and 113 kg of tiger bones were seized by an army patrol stationed inside Langtang National Park.

This consignment was found in card board boxes although the army did not find the skins in its usual check. However in the evening a commotion was seen by the army patrol. They went to check and in the process, they found the illegal consignment hidden besides perishable goods. These goods were being sent to Tibet.

This is the biggest consignment seized in Nepal in recent times says Prasanna Yonzon, CEO of WCN (Wildlife Conservatiom Nepal) who is working in controlling illegal wildlife trade in conjunction with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation. It is just a matter of time before the culprit is caught. They will face the consequences and Nepal's law against wildlife crime is very harsh compared to other South Asian countries.
