Scorpion fly17/07/2008 12:07:49This looks very like a Welsh Clearing moth, but is in fact one of the Scorpion Flies Panorpidae sp. There are only 3 British species, all of which are relatively common. They get their name because the terminal segments of the male abdomen is turned up like a scorpion. Despite the name and appearance they are completely harmless and spend most of their lives crawling around hedgerows where they live on dead insects and carrion. ![]()

You say in this article that the Scorpion Fly is common. Well, i have never seen one and would love to know where in the Sheffield area i could see these insects please?
