Marine conservation officer Andrew Irvine said the 3 whales were seen swimming well offshore after being marshalled by an army of rescuers.

Mr Irvine said ‘We will monitor the beaches and waterways around Ocean Beach over the coming days to ensure the whales don't re-strand again. This is a great result considering the length of time the animals had been stranded and the hazardous negotiation of Macquarie Harbour.

Update
Unfortunately one of the three rescued whales restranded, and although rescuers are trying to refloat it again, they are not hopefull.
