Nugget Point is located at the northern end of The Catlins Coast. A lighthouse sits at the end of the dramatic headland. With its historic lighthouse and scattering of rocky islets, Nugget Point is one of the most distinctive places on the Southland coast.

From the car park, there is a well maintained pathway that leads to a viewing platform beside the lighthouse - great seascapes. The area is rich in wildlife; several seabird species nest on the rock stacks. This is also the only place on mainland New Zealand where three sea mammal species, New Zealand fur seal, New Zealand sea lion and elephant seals all breed.

Wildlife Highlights: The area is known for its wildlife - fur seals, elephant seals, sea lions, sooty shearwaters, shags, yellow-eyed penguins (hoiho) and a breeding colony of gannets can all be found here.

Location: Head down the coast from Kaka point to the end of Nuggets Road.
