Onetangi Reserve
Onetangi Reserve is owned and managed by the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society of New Zealand. The 50 hectare reserve is one of the largest areas of intact forest on the northern coast of Waiheke Island and consists of mature pohutukawa, taraire, nikau palms, rimu, miro, matai, groves of kauri and grand viewing points.
Highlights: Fantail, tui, morepork, kaka.
Facilities & Access: There is one looped track that runs around the reserve.
Location: Just east of Onetangi on Waiheke Island.
Accommodation. Forest and Bird have a small lodge next to the reserve that sleeps 8 people, and costs ): $50 - 90 p/night for the cottage. The lodge has a large lounge, a well-equipped kitchen and a separate toilet, bathroom and shower. Pillows, blankets provided. No pets. Ferries take 35 minutes from Auckland.
