Emperor penguin and chick
Penguins like the cold, not balmy late afternoons like this. Initially a rookery of penguins can overwhelm the photographer as there is so much going on. Actually most of the photos I took that day were hopeless as they were far too busy and it was too bright. This was much later when a father and young were isolated and I was able to get low and use a wide angle and polariser, without the catch light it would be nothing.
Emperor penguin and chick.
Emperor penguins are the largest of all the penguins. They breed on sea ice in the deep Antarctic winter, producing a single chick.
