Stars of Big Cat Diary

reviews/big_cat When Big Cat Diary first filmed in 1996 as a one off, it was a bit of a leap of faith for the BBC. Watching the big cats of the Masai Mara for ½ hour per day, well, who would watch? It proved so popular that it is now in its eighth series, and nowadays it regularly pulls in some 7 million viewers, and has launched a series of ‘diaries' and copy cat (excuse me) programmes across the airwaves (bears, elephants, meerkats.), but Big Cat was the original and is still the best.

Jonathan Scott was one of the original presenters, and, as you can imagine, with any book put together by Jonathan and Angie Scott, the photography is stunning. They have included contributions from fellow presenters Simon King and Saba Douglas-Hamilton and from members of the production team to reveal how the programme is put together and how things don't always go according to plan.

The leopards Half-Tail & Shadow, her daughter; Kike, who became Jonathans bête noire when she famously ‘marked her territory' through the roof of his vehicle; and the ongoing saga of the March pride of lions, all feature heavily. Kike has almost become Jonathan's love interest with the relationship between them becoming almost interdependent.
