Birds in your Garden
By Christopher Helm - Introduction by Bill Oddie
Published by AC Black
Another in the recent spate of wildlife books from the Wildlife Trusts. Most of the book consists of double page spreads about the birds you are most likely to see. There are some interesting facts about each species, EG there are no nuthatches in Ireland, or Robins can have up to 4 broods in a year. However there are no distribution maps to help you work out what you are seeing, or what you might see.
There are several different sections, mostly aimed at helping you to attract birds to your garden. Gardening for birds, what to fed the birds, birds as pests, water for birds, cats, nests, trees and hedges, and insects.
UK Gardens
The UK has some 270,000 hectares of gardens in 15 million gardens, so play an important part as wildlife habitat in the UK.
If you are already a birder, probably not much here for you, but this is an ideal book for starters or first timers, or people who occasionally glance out of their window at their bird table.
