Through the Garden Gate

Stephen de Vere is best known for his wildlife camera work on many of David Attenborough's award winning TV series, such as Life, Yellowstone, Frozen Planet (out in 2011), Life of Birds and Life in the freezer. However this DVD focuses on his own backyard in Oxfordshire, and it is a fresh look at some of our more familiar wildlife. The film follows the local wildlife through the course of a year, mapping seasonal changes with the eye of one of the world's most accomplished wildlife film makers. 

 

There is no haunting music to distract from the wildlife, nor is there even a voice over. Stephen provides a fantastic portrait of the wildlife that is all around us, all the time. My children particularly enjoyed the long-tailed tits nest building, and the clips of the foxes.
