The Natural History Book
The Natural History Book - Every school should have one - One of the best books of the year
This book is not a field guide or a scientific work, it is an inspiration. It is the kind of book that can grab the attention of a youngster and give them that first interest in wildlife that can grow throughout their lives. Containing photos and images of some 5000 species along with a brief description and a few facts about each one, the book is a riot of colour and imagery. There are also much more detailed pages about flagship species such as the Polar bear, tiger, white rhino, stick insect (see below), King penguin, Cuban crocodile and many many more. The book doesn't claim to be a comprehensive guide to the whole spectrum of natural history, but it does provide a brief history of natural history (From Aristotle to Linnaeus), as well as covering modern topics such as climate change and pollution.
The book is large, hardback and runs to 650 pages, and is split into 6 sections:-
