Rewilded - Saving the South China Tiger
By Li Quan
This photographic story of 'rewildling' South China tigers in South Africa has lots of nice tiger pictures, and text in Chinese and English, but ignores the vital question of the ethics of such an operation. Why is it necessary to take tigers to South Africa to breed and, potentially, 'rewild' them. And is holding them in a controlled 60 hectare enclosure and occasionally releasing some poor antelope, that has never seen a tiger before, into the enclosure. Training them to survive on the South African Veld and potentially catch a few South African animals is hardly good training for creating a sustainable wild population in China.
The book is in large coffee table format, and has lots of pictures of tigers in unnatural poses, conditions, and collars. But there is a story to be told, and if you like photos of tigers, this could be for you.
RRP £39.95.
