Survival – Saving Endangered Migratory Species

reviews/reviews_2010/survival_johnson By Stanley Johnson and Robert Vagg

Stanley Johnson has many years experience in environmental work, ranging from working as head of the Prevention of Pollution division for the EC, being a trustee of Plantlife and Earthwatch, and being the chairman of the Gorilla Organisation - In fact he was awarded the Greenpeace prize for Outstanding service to the Environment as far back as 1984!

Robert Vag works for the Convention on Migratory Species & Stanley in their ambassador.

The book is a large hardback format, with a double page spread on each of the selected species, all of which are migratory species currently threatened by one form of human activity or another. There are many more migratory species than you might imagine, and some of those covered include elephants, dugong. Salmon, whale sharks, Northern bald ibis, sociable lapwing, lesser kestrel, walrus, sea turtles and, curiously, gorillas (do they migrate?).

The photography is as you might expect for such a book, though not worth the price alone, and some maps would have improved my understanding of some of the issues.

RRP £29.95 but usually available from Amazon for under £15
