Majella National Park

Majella National Park is situated in the Abruzzo Region of Central Italy, one of the most impressive and extensive mountain ranges of the Apennines, containing more than 30 peaks higher than 2000m and Mt Amaro is the second highest peak of the Apennines.
Fauna: Nearly half of all mammal species found in Italy are present in Majella. Apennine wolf, red deer, roe deer, wild cats, chamois and brown bear are all found in Majella.
Birds:The Golden (Royal) Eagle is often seen, and other spectacular sights such as White-Backed Woodpecker, the Honey-buzzard, Lanner falcon and the Dotterel.
How to get there:
By road: From Rome, take the A25 Roma-Pescara, then the 17, 487, 614, 81 or 84 state road for the Maiella towns.
From the north (Bologna, Ancona) or east (Bari), the A14 to Pescara, then the A25 westbound. The eastern part of the Maiella can be reached from Val di Sangro, then the Casoli road.
From the south (Naples) by the A1 to Caianello, then towards Venafro and Roccaraso.
By train:
the Roma Sulmona Pescara line, then the two slow but picturesque local lines from Sulmona to Castel di Sangro arrive at the park’s towns.
