Cheddar Gorge

uk/wildlife_june_09/cheddar_whitebeam_nt Cheddar Gorge is the largest gorge in the UK, reaching 500 feet in places; the sides of the ravine are the highest inland cliffs in the Britain.

Wildlife highlights:  This is classic Peregrine territory, and buzzard, tawny owl, kestrel, green woodpecker & raven are all found here. Dormouse, Clouded yellow butterflies, Greater Horseshoe bat and Great Crested newt are also found.

Access and location: The gorge can be viewed both from the public road running through the base of the gorge or from footpaths along the cliff tops. Cheddar Gorge is just north west of the town of Cheddar, and can be accessed from the town by rod or footpath.
